Microsoft Reveals Windows 8 -Touch Oriented, To Be Released In 2012

Windows 8

Microsoft unveiled its new OS at a press event in Taipei on June 1 ’2011 at the 'All Things Digital conference'. Windows 8, is reported to be completely touch oriented with some mesmerizing features like the touch screen keyboard and file system access. There is a PlayBook style support for the tabs and the UI looks somewhat similar to RIM’s first tablet.
Instead of being on the top, the URL bar in Windows 8 is placed in the bottom. The design is very much similar to Windows Phone 7 but we can’t comment on it until we grab our hands on it. Windows 8 , which may not be the final name of Microsoft’s new OS, is expected to be released next year, reported analysts. Microsoft is focusing on tablet PC concept in the Windows 8 OS.
Windows 8 reveals colorful titles and finger-swipe gestures from the Windows Phone Operating System while expanding them to a larger screen. Just like the Windows Phone OS, the system resumes to a ‘lock screen’ which has some diagnostic information as well as alerts placed well on a background picture. A finger swipe on the right side of the screen opens a menu of buttons for search, sharing as well as shortcut to home. One interesting feature of the new Windows OS is that it will be capable of running older Windows programs.
Windows 8 is still in development, so we can hardly conclude anything about its performance right now. Microsoft also revealed that the new OS will be able to run on processors designed by ARM Holdings, in addition to Intel chips. That’s an important addition because ARM’s technology is winning among most smartphone and tablet makers.
